In March 1982 Glover’s Bakery was established by Alf Glover. Alf had previously worked within bakery organisations since 1966 so had an extensive bakery background.

Alf initially started trading at 85 Leyland Lane, Leyland selling products purchased from a local wholesale family baker. After a few months Alf decided it was time to pursue his dream of being able to prepare, bake and sell his “own freshly made goods”. So during the Summer and Autumn of 1982 the rear of the shop, which was originally living accommodation was extensively refurbished and transformed into a working bakery. He then increased his staff to 3 who initially produced bread and morning goods and when these were successfully established added pies and savouries to their range and finally added confectionery items.

In 1987 as demand for products grew, a decision was made to relocate to larger premises and a building that had been a printing works was identified as being suitable. This was refurbished and the bakery moved into Units 1 & 2 at Longmeanygate in Leyland. By then we employed 25.

As the Company thrived this facility soon became too small and an extension was added in 1996. Then at the end of 2000 we bought a local gateau manufacturer’s premises, again this was converted to meet the needs of the business and moved to our present production facility in April 2001 to Club Street, Bamber Bridge.

2006 was a memorable year for Alf as he had been a baker for 40 years.

TODAY

The Company has seen both progression and expansion over the last 25 years, Alf’s goal is for the Company to become a leading supplier of bakery goods throughout the North West, by producing goods that are fresh, and of a consistently good quality, whilst still retaining our independence and family values. A goal we feel has been achieved and retained for many years.

The Company currently employs 100 staff, who over 6 days a week prepare, bake and despatch goods to our local shops and numerous North West businesses. We also have a dedicated team who constantly monitor and review the quality of our products and by providing this service hope that we will retain our existing customers and attract new ones.

2007 sees another milestone, Glover’s Bakery will have been trading for 25 years. A time, that has to be celebrated. Here’s to the next 25.
